Governor Samuel Ortom has won the award of Most Valuable Governor in Nigeria for the year 2017, presented to him by the International Communion of Charismatic and Evangelical Bishops/Apostles Incorporated, ICCEBA.
Arch Bishop Leonard Kawas, founder of World Harvest Ministries Incorporated and African Prelate of ICCEBA, who made the presentation yesterday at the Benue Peoples House Makurdi during a condolence visit on Governor Ortom, also presented an 'expensive pen' to the governor to be used in assenting to more peoples oriented laws and policies.
He stated that the award was in recognition of the Governor’s pioneering role in providing Nigeria with the best solution to crises between farmers and herders in the country through the promulgation of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law.
According to him, Governor Ortom had demonstrated uncommon courage in standing for the truth in the face of stiff oppositions from high authorities.
Bishop Kawas in a condolence letter he delivered to the Governor said it was with deep sense of grief to have over 73 people massacred in cold blood by militia sponsored by the leadership of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore.
While condemning the dastardly act, the Prelate called on President Muhammadu Buhari to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators and their sponsors, stressing that cattle rearing is a personal business and should not be fronted by the federal government.
Arch Bishop Kawas stated that ranching remains the panacea to herdsmen and farmers crises and thanked the governor for standing firm and not willing to negotiate the destiny of Benue citizens, even as he assured of the support of the church to peaceful coexistence.
Receiving the award and the pen, Governor Ortom expressed appreciation to the Bishop and the entire community of ICCEBA worldwide for the award and condolence visit, saying it was a show of love for people of the state.
He stated that the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law was enacted as a lasting solution to the cry of Benue people over the years due to farmers/herders crises, stressing that it’s promulgation followed due process.
Governor Ortom while calling on Nigerians to eschew selfishness and cheap blackmail aimed at twisting facts and encouraging impunity said it was amazing for the federal government to be playing to the gallery instead of tackling the monster that is fast destroying the entire country.
