BENUE KILLINGS: Saraki, others meet Buhari over Senate resolution

The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, on Tuesday evening led Senate leadership to a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

The meeting which lasted about one and a half hour was held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
It afforded the federal lawmakers the opportunity of briefing Buhari of the resolution reached by the Senate earlier in the day on the recent killings in Benue State.

Saraki briefed State House correspondents at the end of the meeting on behalf of his colleagues.

He said, “The meeting was just a follow up.

“You know I was here with the Speaker two nights ago and today is our first day at session .

“If you followed, we debated the issue of the unfortunate incident in Benue close to about four hours and some of the resolutions we took was for me to personally come and brief the President on some of our resolution particularly concerning security.”
The Senior Special Assistant to President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Ita Enang, on his part said, “I want to commend the Senate for debating the issues of security with the greatest passion void of political affiliations.”

The Senate had earlier in the day issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to investigate and arrest the perpetrators of the Benue attacks that led to the death of over 73 persons.

The two chambers of the National Assembly condemned the wanton attacks by suspected herdsmen as they resumed plenary for the first time this year.
