SEMA BOSS MEETS WITH UNHCR REPRESENTATIVES IN BENUE, SOLICITS THE COMMISSION ASSISTANCE FOR REFUGEES IN BENUE STATE

The Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Mr. Emmanuel Shior today had an emergency meeting with the representative of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHC) in Benue state, Mr. Sam Agwa to intimate him about the increasing number of refugees from the neighboring Cameron who are in the state to seek asylum, and to also seek the agency assistance.

Mr. Shior who solicited for help from the UNHCR said it became necessary to brief the Commission about the increasing number of refugees from the neighboring country (Cameron) who have fled their country and are seeking asylum in Benue State, noting that at moment two refugees camps of over five thousands each have been established in Kwande Local Government area of Benue state.
SEMA boss who showered praises on Gov Ortom for standing by the agency, said the overnor was also worried about the influx of refugees from Cameron to the state and had directed the agency to establish those camps and to also take relief materials to the camps in order to alleviate their plights.
Responding, the UNHCR representatives in Benue state Mr. Sam Agwa who hailed Mr. Shior for the good job he is doing, assured the SEMA boss of the commission readiness to assist the agency, adding also that he would take the agency request to the head office for prompt action.
