The Insatiable S*x Drive of Married Persons is Responsible for High HIV Rate - AKSACA Reveals

According to a new statement from AKSACA, the insatiable s*x drive of married persons is responsible for high HIV rate.

Dr. Nkereuwem Etok, the Programme Manager of Akwa Ibom State Agency for the Control of AIDS, has said the high rate of HIV spread in the state is traceable to “married couples’ insatiable crave for unprotected sex outside marriage.”

According to The Punch, he said a survey conducted by the agency showed that married couples accounted for the highest HIV prevalence rate of 51.6 per cent, while prostitutes constitute a mere four per cent.

Etok said this during an interactive session with journalists in Uyo on Tuesday.

“We have areas of high prevalence. Before the statistics started coming, we were sure that the most-at-risk population would be the commercial s*x workers.

“We were sure that this group will be the most affected, but our data showed surprising result that married men and women are the highest HIV infected persons, with 51.6 percent.

“The commercial s*x workers recorded only four per cent, while those engaged in casual s*x recorded second highest with 30 percent,” he said.

The programme manager attributed the high prevalence rate among the couples to include denial that HIV/AIDS exist and the fact that most of them engage in casual s*x, not minding the status of their casual s*x partners.

He added that many people are still tied to the culture of marrying widows without minding what killed the husband.

Etok explained that this category of people are workers who travel for businesses, seminars and workshops within and outside the country, thus exposing themselves to strange bed fellows whose status they do not care to know.

Etok called on the people of the state to make themselves available for HIV screening which are done free of charge in designated places across the 31 local government areas of the state.

He said his agency has recorded significant achievements in the second sphere of the World Bank HIV/AIDS assisted programme, which ended on February 26, 2017.

These, he added include the production of and dissemination of HIV/AIDS workplace policy which provided the framework for the elimination of the stigma in workplace, reducing its spread and managing its impacts, among others.

He said that in 2015, AKSACA won the House of Representatives Excellence Award as the best SACA with positive impact in the rural communities in the South-South, despite still being the second state with HIV/AIDS prevalence in the country.
