ABUJA: Six men charged with bag-snatching

The police on Thursday arraigned six men in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, suspected to be members of a criminal gang that specialise in snatching bags at a black spot in Wuye District of the FCT.
The suspects are standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on belonging to a criminal gang and criminal conspiracy, offences they denied committing.
The prosecutor, Mr Donatus Abah, gave the names of the suspects as: Nura Ibrahim, Musa Abdullahi, Bashir Lawal, Biliyaminu Garba, Yahaya Mohammed and Abba Mohammed. Abah told the court that the suspects were arrested on Aug. 19 by a police patrol team attached to Wuye Police Division.
The prosecutor said that during investigation, all the suspects confessed to be members of a criminal gang, that specialise in snatching bags in Wuye District.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 406,96 and 306 of the Penal Code The Magistrate, Eremasi Ebiwari, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200, 000 each, with one surety each in like sum and adjourned the case until Sept. 12 for hearing.
