NIGERIA SAFETY INSTITUTE LAUDS NIGERIAN ARMY'S HEALTH AND SAFETY INITIATIVES

THE Environment and Safety Management Institute has praised the Nigerian Army's initiative in health and safety as part of activities to commemorate the 2017 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL).
Speaking to journalists in Lafia, the Natioal President of the institute, Mr. Martin Iorsamber observed that Soldiers of the Nigerian Army early on Saturday morning went into designated areas in communities across the 36 states and FCT to clean up the environs, provide free medical consultation and testing as well as provide drugs and advice to civilians. He also expressed happiness over the contribution of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) who supported the initiative by donating hospital equipment to Mararaba Medical Centre, Nasarawa State to improve health care delivery in the facility. According to Mr. Iorsamber, the Environment and Safety Management Institute considers this initiative of the Nigerian Army highly commendable and worthy of emulation by other institutions and organisations. He said the action was also a sensitization call on Nigerians to keep their environments clean to prevent spread of diseases and promote health. The president explained that as foremost health and safety institution, part of ESMI's strategy is to encourage individuals and institutions in the responsible management of the environment.
He further emphasized that the Environment and Safety Management Institute was established to educate, enforce, engineer and encourage health, safety and environmental management by Nigerians and the world at large. Environmental sustainability is a major issue in sustainable development and should be the responsibility of all.
