DAVID MARK, MORO PUT TO SHAME AS 8TH SENATE PASSES PEACE CORPS BILL INTO LAW

By Berger Alfred Emberga Mrp.
The former president of the 6th and 7th senate, senator David Mark and the former minister of interior during Goodluck regime, Hon. Abba Moro were on Tuesday put to shame as Saraki led members of the 8th Senate finally passed a bill to make the Nigerian Peace Corps a para-military agency.
The Senate adopted the conference report on the bill to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps, after it was so advised by its committee on judiciary, human rights and legal matters.
The bill will be sent to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent after the House also approves the harmonised version.
It is no longer news that the Peace Corps organisation which was founded on the 10th July, 1998 by Amb. Dickson Akoh a Benue Idoma son suffered negligence in the hands of PDP adminstration even when two Idoma sons, Senator David Mark and Hon. Abba Moro held sway as the president of 6th and 7th senate and minister of interior respectively.
As a president of the Senate and minister of interior who were at the helm of affairs in running the then government, the duo had the powers to push for the quick passage of the bill into law and its assent using whatever means, but they deliberately turned their deaf ears and blind eyes to the bill owing to the fact that the glory would be given to Amb. Akoh for this wonderful initiative.
But was it not a show of shame and sheer wickedness on the part of these two Idoma PDP chieftains, who had tried at all cost to frustrate the Peace Corps bill?
Well for the fact that the passage of the bill has exposed the wickedness of these Idoma sons against their own brother, it goes to show how fair, transparent and openness the APC led administration has always been. The APC government does not discriminate or witch-hunt citizens as it was in the days of the PDP led government. Just as here in Benue state, Governor Samuel Ortom would always say that his government is ready to welcome and partner with individuals who have genuine suggestions and ideas, the APC led government is always ready to work with persons who have ideas that will develop the nation. Imagine how many Nigerian youths will be employed by the organization.
I elect to congratulate members of the 8th senate for the passage of this bill into law and the founder of Peace Corps organisation for his tolerance in the face of deliberate provocation. I'm confident that the presidency will assent to the bill as soon as possible.
