Obasanjo endorses Ortom for second term

                                                                      Benue state Governor, Samuel Ortom
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has endorsed Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State for a second term.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Obasanjo spoke on Saturday in Makurdi after commissioning the Schools of Nursing and Midwifery.
The ex-president, who said he was impressed with the quality of the two schools, while commending Ortom, said the governor needed to be given more time to consolidate on his achievements.
Obasanjo noted that all the facilities that were lacking at the schools, which were said to have been written off for three years, had been provided by the governor.
According to the former president, with the help of the governor, the schools regained accreditation.
The elder statesman urged people in privileged positions to indulge in things that would usher in development.
He also stressed the need for highly-placed Nigerians to work for the unity of the country and “stop finding faults in everything.”
Rather, he said they should strive to correct imperfections that they noticed.
He also admonished against singing songs of discord and disunity.
Obasanjo also commended Ortom for signing the anti-open grazing bill into law, stating that it would put an end to situations where animals destroyed crops in the process of grazing.
Ortom said he lacked words to express his “inestimable appreciation” to Obasanjo for visiting Benue to commission the projects.
The governor appealed to the people to engage in massive agricultural activities in order to increase their income.
A former governor of the state, Sen. George Akume, also appreciated the former president for always keeping people in leadership positions on their toes with constructive criticism.
