Fiidi Settlement in Makurdi Local Government is now deserted following communal clash that has erupted in the area.

Findings are that there was an incident that started between two People in a public sit out at Fiidi where an argument degenerated into the Communal clash leading to the burning of houses.

At the time of this report, members of the Community particularly Women and Children were seen fleeing with their luggage from Fiidi down to Makurdi the State Capital, while others hung around the Airforce Base Community for safety.

Governor Samuel Ortom on Monday led members of the State Security Council to assess the level of damage caused the Community due to the ugly incident there.

Addressing some members of the Community,Governor Ortom appealed to relevant Security Agencies to fish out those behind the Communal clash and restore sanity.

He appealed to the Persons that have fled their homes to return, saying he has been assured of security of the area by the relevant Security Agencies in the State and advised the People from both sides of the divides to avoid taking laws into their own hands.

Also speaking,the Commissioner of Police,Benue State Command,Mr.Bashir Makama, confirmed that one life has so far been lost during the clash with lots of houses set ablaze.

Mr.Makama said the Command along with other Security Outfits would unravel the cause of the misunderstanding with a view to bringing it to an end and appealed for calm.

On his part,the Ter Makurdi, Chief Sule Abenga appealed to the State government to protect his People and expressed regret that a day after the Governor had signed two bills that could end skirmishes and other such crimes in the State, a communal crisis would erupt in Fiidi,causing government sleepless nights.
