GOV ORTOM ASSURES INVESTORS OF ENABLING ENVIRONMENT

By: Tahav Agerzua
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has reiterated his assurance to provide an enabling environment for investors in the state.
He spoke when a Chinese delegation from the China One Belt One Road Corporation Limited paid him a courtesy call at the Benue Peoples House, in Makurdi.
Governor Ortom stated that his administration was aware of the lack of capacity of government at all levels to provide jobs and create wealth as well as opportunities hence the need to collaborate with the private sector which could fill the gap.
He requested the delegation to explore possibilities of investing in agriculture, industrialization, construction and tourism saying the state had comparative and competitive advantages in those areas and that there would be good returns on investment in them.
Board chairman of the China One Belt One Road Investment Corporation Limited, Mr. Yuan Rujun, expressed gratitude for the hospitality of the government and people of the state.
He assured that his group was interested in partnering with the state in the areas mentioned for economic development and mutual benefit of both parties.
At a cocktail for the visitors yesterday, Governor Ortom pledged to tackle security challenges facing the state stressing that with the end of the amnesty program the big stick would be used against criminals.
Nigeria’s Ambassador to China, Mr. Olusola Ojemare Orevba, urged Governors of other states to emulate the initiative of their colleagues from the North Central Zone led by Governor Ortom who organized a Nigeria Chinese Business Forum in China last April.
He stressed that the forum had the potential of boosting economic development in Nigeria in general and the states involved in particular.
Second class traditional ruler of Makurdi, Chief Sule Abenga, conferred the chieftaincy title of Great Friend of Makurdi on Mr. Rujun.
