Benue State Government has called on the Sultan of Sokoto to intervene and press on the Fulani herdsmen to embrace Ranching in order to end Fulani herders/ Farmers clashes on Benue soil.The delegation of Benue State council of Chiefs represented by HRH Chief Ambrose Iortyer, Ter Ushongo, HRH Chief Dominic Akpe, Ter Gwer, HRH Chief  John Antenyi,Odejo K'apa and the leader of the delegation Special Adviser to the  Governor of Benue State on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Hon. Titus Zam, were at palace of the Sultan of Sokoto to seek for collaboration in resolving the endless attacks by Fulani herdsmen.

In his speech Hon.Titus Zam,  reminded the Sultan of the long standing relationship between the Benue people and the far north/Caliphate which has yielded several socio-political benefits to both sides,he therefore appealed to Sultan to intervene quickly in the needless face-off between Benue State farmers and herders.He also conveyed Governor Ortom's condolence message to the Sultan over the death of Alhaji Umaru  Shinkafi.

In his response the Sultan, warmly received members of the delegation and commended Governor Ortom for sending an eminent delegation to him and chosen dialogue and diplomacy in tackling what has become a National embarrassment, the Sultan confirmed the historic relationship between the Benue people especially the Tiv Nation with the Caliphate.He intermittently reminded the delegation about the MUNCHI joke between the Tiv and Fulanis and wondered why the glorious brotherhood has  collapsed of late.The Sultan condoled Families that lost their beloved ones and promised to collaborate with the  peace initiatives of Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State.He called for an immediate stakeholders meeting between Fulani leaders and Benue State Government which he promised to personally attend to find a lasting solution  of the crisis.

The Sultan decried the lack of political will  on the part of the previous administration of Benue State for failing to implement the road map fashioned out in the previous attempts to bring peace in the Benue valley and advised the present leadership in State to work harder and develop political will in synergy with Nasarwa, Plateau and Taraba states to end the lingering crisis between Farmers and herders on permanent basis.
