Niger Delta agitation, now a selfish struggle – Group

Government TompoloA Socio-political pressure group, The Concerned Niger Delta Coalition(CNDC), made up of youths from the five ethnic nationalities in Delta State, has condemned the various militant groups in the state for their persistent attack on the person of Chief Ayiri Emami and the lost of focus in their self-imposed mandate of freeing the region from its long suffering and neglect.
Addressing a select group of journalists at their Ugborikoko base in Warri Saturday, Comrade Edisson Torugbene, National President of the CNDC said, “it is painful that the whole struggle has been reduced to a personality game for purely selfish gains as it would appear that Chief Ayiri is their problem when it is even obvious to all of us that the young man, not minding whether he is Itsekiri or not, is saying the truth. Why do they always call only his name and fail to mention his so-called ijaw cohorts. It is because they know their boys would kill them immediately.”
According to the CNDC president,” the various attacks on the personality of the young man by this group shows a total lack of focus and a bid to make the so-called struggle another Itsekiri/Ijaw tribal matter which it is not. It is a wicked plan to destroy and intimidate the itsekiri people. That is why they are afraid to join us in the struggle because it appears there are ulterior motives behind the struggle now. Look at it again, Tompolo is accusing Chief Ayiri of being behind his predicament and using the Avengers against him to portray him in bad light before the Federal Government. Now the Avengers is accusing  the Itsekiri man of re-branding, re-regrouping and re-arming Tompolos’ MEND to frustrate and undermine their aims and objectives of crippling the Nigeria economy. So you see, they are fooling the rest of us,” he opined.
On his part, Mr. Omajuwa Gbenebitse-Out, the Public Relation Officer of CNDC,  said, the only way the rest of us  can be said to be part of this struggle is for all of us to come together for proper discussion of the issues affecting us and fashion out the way  forward and not for only the Ijaws to be brandishing lethal weapons of war to fight the FG in our collective name, Niger Delta, only for them alone to benefit at our detriment as in the amnesty case.
“The CNDC therefore urged the fighters to settle their failed illegal oil bunkering business disagreement with some of the security personnel /collaborators instead of making innocent people of our various communities suffer for what they know nothing about.”
