Heavily armed gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen Monday invaded six communities in the homestead of immediate past governor of Benue State, Dr. Gabriel Suswam, leaving at least 10 people dead and over 25 houses burnt down to ashes.
Monday’s attack came barely few hours to the dedication of the state to God by Governor Samuel Ortom over the poor security situation in the state organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in conjunction with the state government, and saw hundreds of people including women and children displaced.
It was learnt that the killers stormed the villages in the early hours and started shooting sporadically during which 10 people were massacred
The former Special Adviser to the ex-governor on Media and Publicity, Chief Joseph Anawan who is also an indigene of the area, said that corpses of the deceased persons have been deposited at the morgue at NKST Health Centre at Anyiin, headquarters of Logo Local Government Area of the state.
One of the villages that was first attacked according to Chief Anawa was the Tse Ikyoor located along Anyiin-Wukari road, saying attempts by him and other farmers to access their village proved abortive as the herdsmen were still on rampage
