Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has expressed appreciation to non- governmental organisations which have so far sent relief materials and played other key roles to assist victims of the invasion of Benue communities by herdsmen.
Governor Ortom who stated this yesterday when a delegation from TY Danjuma Foundation paid him a courtesy visit at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi, said donations by different organisations had complemented the efforts of the State Government in addressing the plight of the internally displaced people.
Statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Mr Terver Akase said, Dr Ortom thanked the TY Danjuma Foundation for visiting Benue State with the aim of assisting the victims of herdsmen attacks, many of who have lost loved ones in the crisis with property worth billions of naira destroyed.
"We are glad that you are here. As you visit the areas affected by the crisis, you will see the devastation that has been done to our people. The impact of the destruction will be felt more next year as food shortage is likely to set in," Governor Ortom stated.
The Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of TY Danjuma Foundation, Mr Tersoo Akula, earlier informed Governor Ortom that they were in the state to carry out baseline assessment as well as strategy response in the areas affected by the crisis with a view to embarking on interventions. He commended the proactive steps taken by the Governor to end the killings and restore peace to the troubled areas.
Also on the delegation were the Manager, Finance and Administration of the Foundation, Mr Shuaibu Adeadebayo and the group's Information Officer, Mr Francis Adoga.
