Suswam in another alleged N1.4bn scandal

The Contracts Review Verification and Assessment panel constituted by Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, to intrusively investigate the eight-year tenure of his predecessor, Gabriel Suswam, at the weekend uncovered another whopping N1.4 billion contract scandal allegedly pinned against the former governor.
The panel came to know about this when the former Commissioner for Works and Housing in the state, who served under Suswam’s administration, Engr. Mnena Shija, appeared and testified before it during which she indicted the ex-governor of alleged inflation of the initial contract sum of N970 million to over N1.4 billion meant for the construction of the Governor’s Lodge in Makurdi.
Testifying before the panel in Makurdi, the state capital, Engr. Shija admitted in evidence that the exact cost for the construction of the edifice as approved by the ministry before presentation to the state executive council was N970 million, but the ex-governor intercepted her before the commencement of the meeting and directed her to alter the figure from N970 million to over N1.4 billion.
