The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caucus in the House of Representatives has berated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for suspending the declaration of results of the rerun elections in Rivers State held last Saturday.
Leader of the Caucus and minority leader of the House, Hon. Leo Ogor, who addressed a press conference on Tuesday in company of the PDP lawmakers, said the essence of the media parley was to call on the electoral umpire to release the remaining election results without any further delay.
“It would be very embarrassing that people will conduct election as an umpire and after that the people have given their mandate, have casted their votes for the right candidate and the right people have won and they have decided to hold back the results.
“It is known to everybody that these results are before the public and any attempt to change them will not be accepted, we will follow all legal process to challenge it but they should play the role of an umpire rather than siding a section,” Ogor said.
The PDP lawmakers also condemned the involvement of military personnel in the exercise, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to institute an investigation into their roles at March 19, 2016 elections.
“The concept of using the Army in any election which APC even went to court to even challenge has now become the order of the day, I find it very embarrassing,” he added.
