How We Expended N5.5b Loan – Gov Ortom

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has disclosed that his administration expended the N5.5 billion loan it procured with approval by the State House of Assembly on the payment of various counterpart funds.
He made the disclosure at the flag off of implementation of conditional grants scheme projects in Benue State.
According to the Governor N3.8 billion was paid to the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, N1.2 billion was paid for projects of the sustainable development goals while the rest was expended on projects of the International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD, as well as the Benue Rural Water and Sanitation Agency, BERWASA.
He dismissed allegations that the money had been embezzled saying it was only accessed three weeks ago and disbursed accordingly.
The Governor said his administration was collaborating with the Presidency to invest in key sectors including health care, water and sanitation as well as education and economic empowerment.
“Although the projects flagged off are in tandem with the five pillars of this administration, they were selected based on needs assessment of the various communities,” Governor Ortom stated”.
He said the bidding process was transparent adding that he did not interfere with the process that led to the award of contracts to deserving contractors irrespective of party affiliation.
Special Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals, Dr. Magdalyne Dura, disclosed that the State assessed N2.4 billion from the Millennium Development Goals funds meant to round up projects under the scheme.
Mrs. Dura and Mr David Allu, who represented the Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Mr. Ochapa Ogenyi, stated that Benue State was the first to launch such projects under the current dispensation.
Chairperson, State Assembly Committee on SDGs/MDGs, Mrs. Lydia Agaigbe advised contractors to deliver on quality and in accordance with specifications.
Governor Ortom presented cheques to contractors at the occasion.
Responding on behalf of recipients, Engr. Peter Ashiekaa pledged to justify the confidence reposed in them.
Governor Ortom also received a delegation from the National Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution led by Prof. Osita Osita.

  1. That could be the best thing to hear about this universal basic education commission. I'm hoping that many different colleges and high schools will get those benefits. I am also hoping that they can also provide good reviews page for students that will be base on different kinds of learning such as essay, writing composition and all other forms of study that will give them benefits.
