Governor Samuel Ortom yesterday handed over two children rescued from Fulani herdsmen in Agatu local government by security agencies to caretaker chairman of the council, Mr. Joseph Ngbede.
The handover was done yesterday at the Benue Peoples House.
Special Adviser on Security, Colonel Edwin Jando, retired, told newsmen that the rescue followed negotions by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, JTF, and military authorities with the herdsmen.
Receiving the children, Governor Ortom commended the relevant security agencies for their roles in the rescue saying it proved their mettle and capacity.
He appealed to indigenous herdsmen across the state not to accommodate mercenaries in their midst who would turn around to cause trouble.
The Governor who commiserated with those who lost loved ones in the crisis restated the resolve of his administration to collaborate with the Federal Government and deploy conventional security apparatus to rid the state of terrorists and other criminals.
Agatu Caretaker Committee Chairman, Mr Ngbede assured that the children, Mark and Usman Otene, who are brothers, hailed from Aila, the same community would be reunited with their families.
