Benue State Govt uncovers over 1,000 ghost workers in public schools

Benue state government has uncovered 10, 061 ghost workers who were previously on the payroll of public schools in the past administration.
The was revealed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Hon. Titus Zam yesterday while handing over the responsibility of the payment of staff of public schools to the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
According to him, the staff audit conducted by the state government ascertained  23,441 genuine staff as against 24,502 the administration met on ground which has saved funds hitherto expended on ghost workers.
Hon. Zam urged management of SUBEB to be prudent in dealing with resources and be firm in implementing the administrations policies as they affect the development of primary education in the State.
He also promised the Bureau would sustain partnership with SUBEB to improve teachers welfare.
Responding, Executive Chairman SUBEB Dr Philip Tachin promised to study the handover notes and further verify the figures as there was possibility of finding more ghost workers.
He added that the board had already put in place measures and built capacity to manage the system against manipulation for the public to appreciate efforts of the administration at revitalising primary education in the state.
