Lawyers fault Senator Atai Aidoko’s swearing-in, protest to NASS

Group under the aegis of Coalition of Concerned Lawyers have faulted the Senate President for swearing in Senator Atai Aidoko, saying it was a big mistake ever.
Chairman of the group, Barrister Omang Charles Omang stated this while addressing Senate Press Corps in Abuja on developments bothering on election cases across the country.
He explained that Senator Aidoko representing Kogi East Senatorial district ought not to have been sworn into office since there was an appeal by Senator Isaac Alfa, adding that the precedent was dangerous to Nigeria’s legal jurisprudence.
“The case of Senator Atai Aidoko versus Isaac Alfa is a semblance of that of Senator Albert Akpan versus Bassey Etim, both of Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial district. ”
” It was an error for the Senate President to have sworn in Atai Aidoko. They would have allowed appellate courts to decide first,” he added.
Meanwhile, they posited that some politicians were desperate in removing Senator Albert Akpan from office, saying, the judgement delivered against him was faulty.
They were further pained that the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami had written to the Senate President to swear in Bassey Etim.
“We learnt on good authority that the AGF has written to the Senate to swear in Bassey Etim, but we know that there was order of stay of execution. They should allow the appeal before any other thing,” he maintained.
