At the Unveiling of Eunice Spring of Life Foundation in may this year,Initiator of the Foundation and Wife of the Governor of Benue State,Mrs Eunice Ortom Ph.D Jp  promised that funds gotten from the Launch would be used to construct a Cancer Centre.Now the big story.

The Cancer Centre to be constructed in Makurdi,the Benue State Capital by Eunice Spring Of Life Foundation is to be completed in Eight months time.

Mrs Ortom made this known when the Association of Resident Doctors and Medical Women Association of Nigeria  at the Federal Medical Centre Makurdi paid her a courtesy visit in her office.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development Mrs Mwuese Mnyim who was on the team of the Governor's wife also announced during the interface that the Breast Cancer Centre under construction by the State Government for the treatment of Women will be completed in Two weeks time.

According to the Governor's wife,a rehabilitation centre to cater for drug dependants and a paediatric centre complete with state of the art facilities will also be constructed by the foundation.

Said Mrs Ortom"Iam concerned about lack of facilities in the treatment of cancer in the state after screening.

"I lost my my mother due to Breast cancer.I was with her in the hospital and watched her go through pains.this is the passion behind my desire to fight cancer"
"Cancer has become a public health challenge in our state .Our people are dying daily  as such,there is the need to pay more attention to give quality support and prevent further infection,She emphasised.

She called for concerted efforts at public education of the people on how to prevent cancer by avoiding certain lifestyles.

The Governor's wife explained that the delay in the completion of the centre was to avoid mistakes by others in the construction work,and promised to involve experts.

"We have invited experts to fine tune plans and provide input ...we shall involve the resident doctors so that we don't have hitches,Mrs Ortom stated.

Mrs Ortom gave  assurances to have medical Outreaches every month to cover the twenty three local Governments in the state next year.
