UTILIZE OPPORTUNITY TO REPENT - ORTOM

By Daniel Pila
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, today appealed to the people of the state who have been involved in criminal activities to seize the opportunity which God offered human beings while alive to repent from the evil deeds.
He spoke at the funeral of Deacon Felix Msugh Chir, in Shangev-Tiev, Konshisha local government area.
Governor Ortom, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Media and ICT, Mr Tahav Agerzua, stated that the son of the deceased, Mr Armstrong Iorwase Msugh Chir, has utilized this opportunity and changed from writing falsehood to factual posts on the social media and urged other citizens to emulate him.
According to the Governor, the testimonies of those who knew the deceased also indicated that he was a genuine believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and that God had called him to eternal glory.
He assured the family of his personal care and support for those he left behind.
Also speaking at the occasion, Special Adviser to the Governor on Politics, Mr Sarwuan Tarnongu, maintained that the Ortom administration would address the infrastructure deficit in the area when the economy of the state improved adding that the construction of several roads including the Tor-Mkar to Tsuwe road had already being captured in the 2016 state budget.
Mr Tarnongu disclosed that the state government had concluded plans to be the off-taker of farm produce in anticipation of a bumper harvest this year and urged farmers to intensify farming activities.
He said he was committed to promoting unity and peaceful co-existence among the various communities in Konshisha local government area and urged the people to endeavour to resolve land and other disputes through dialogue other than violence.
In his funeral sermon, Rev Abur Igo, urged Christians to be prepared to keep their date with God by worshipping Him in truth and in spirit while they lived adding that Church ceremonies and records do not amount to righteousness which is God's standard for acceptance.
Second class traditional ruler in Konshisha, Chief Jam Gbinde, expressed appreciation to Governor Ortom for his support to the family of the deceased and for his commitment to addressing the challenges confronting the people including the payment of salaries and urged workers in the state to continue to show understanding of the situation.
He appealed to the people not to accept inducements from herdsmen who would make them offers to graze on their land saying such would eventually lead to conflict.
In his vote of thanks, the eldest son of the deceased, Mr Armstrong Iorwase Msugh Chir, a social media activist, expressed appreciation to Governor Ortom, his social media colleagues and all those who stood with the family in their moment of grief.
