I’LL NOT INTERFERE WITH TOR TIV’S SELECTION – GOV ORTOM

By Tahav Agerzua

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has disclosed that he would not interfere with the selection of various categories of chiefs including the Tor Tiv in the forthcoming exercises.
He spoke at the inauguration of Sole Administrators for the 23 council areas in the state during which he also signed the Council of Chiefs and Traditional Councils Amendment Bill 2016. The event took place at the Benue Peoples House in Makurdi today. “May I inform the good people of Benue State that I’ve received divine instructions not to interfere or allow anyone to interfere with the appointment of the chiefs, particularly the Tor Tiv,” he stated. “My role would be to facilitate a free and fair selection process.”
Governor Ortom appealed to those charged with the selection process to consider it a rare privilege to discharge a special assignment under God’s direction and good conscience and declared three days of prayer and fasting to seek divine intervention from Monday to Wednesday next week. “Consequently, we shall set aside three days for prayer and fasting to seek God’s face for divine intervention in the appointment of the chiefs in general and the new Tor Tiv in particular,” he stressed. He urged the Sole Administrators to carry stakeholders along and take note of the fact that the All Progressives Congress, APC, administration under which they served was popularly elected by the people.
“You must fashion your activities in line with the aspirations of the people while your awareness should always include the
fact that your activities are constantly under the watch of supervising authorities which include the House of Assembly,”
Governor Ortom maintained.
