Governor Yahaya Bello has promised to set up a judicial panel of inquiry to look into financial transactions of past leaders of Kogi State since 2003.
Bello, who spoke at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja, yesterday to mark the independence anniversary, said maladministration by past leaders had taken the country back to the Stone Age.
He said the missed opportunities in Kogi and Nigeria were traceable to poor leadership, adding: “Along our journey to greatness, we were derailed, not by a mechanical default but through deliberate acts of sabotage by those we hired to drive us to our desired future.
“The more excellent way is to hold those who have done us wrong accountable for what they did in the past while taking responsibility for our own actions, making sure that all we do in the present lead to positive change in the future.”
The governor, who acknowledged that Nigeria was able to be a sovereign nation as a result of patriotic quest of our past national leaders, charged every citizen to support government’s policies at all levels to take the country to an enviable height.
