She said it was by so doing that the rising cases of the disease which had become a disturbing global challenge could be effectively checked in the country.
Ortom who spoke in Gungul, Konshisha Local Government Area, LGA, of the state at the 2016 Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign organized by the Eunice Spring of Life Foundation, ESLF, also called for intensive awareness campaigns.
“There is no sufficient knowledge on the causes of breast cancer; therefore, early detection of the disease remains the cornerstone of breast cancer control.
“When breast cancer is detected early and adequate diagnosis and treatment are available, there is good chance that the cancer can be cured, if detected late however, curative treatment is often no longer an option.
“What is essential is that regular BSE is very important for women to adopt. It should become a way to find out if one has breast cancer or not. Ortom stated that women have no choice but to step campaign against the disease for rural dwellers to benefit.
In his speech, the Sole Administrator of Konshisha LGA, Mr. John Ayaku assured of mobilisation of people of the area to take the campaign to the doorstep of women in the area. Ortom had earlier led women on an awareness walk in Makurdi and Konshisha after which women were taught the BSE technique.
