The State Leadership of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE in Benue State has scored Governor Samuel Ortom high for approving the release of funds for the payment of local government retirees.
State President of NULGE Comrade Terungwa Igbe spoke on behalf of the union after its State Executive Council meeting in Makurdi.
He said Governor Ortom's decision to release N200 million for the payment of pensions to local government retirees who are yet to enjoy their entitlements for the past five years will reduce the hardship of the senior citizens.
The state NULGE leader also commended the present administration for taking proactive steps to revive the economy, pointing out that the Governor's decision to declare every Friday work-free day in the last two months for workers to engage in farming would help in averting further economic crises and enhance food security.
Comrade Igbe stated that NULGE also praised the Governor for directing that arrears of 2011 and 2012 salaries of local government staff be cleared and appealed to the Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to expedite action on the Governor's directive.
He similarly appealed to the Governor to direct the state Local Government Service Commission to promote deserving staff and assured the Ortom administration of NULGE's unflinching support to enable him succeed.
