Following allegations of budget padding which continues to linger in the House of Representatives, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commissions (EFCC) may soon begin the probe of top officers of the lawmaking body.
According to Punch, the anti-graft agency has sent invitations to some permanent secretaries and directors of finance to appear before it for investigations.
Also on the invitation list are a former Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha, and an ex-Majority Leader, Mulikat Akande-Adeola.
According to Punch, a source in the EFCC confirmed the development.
“Our investigations are being extended to the seventh House because from our discoveries, the padding did not start with the current House.
“There was also padding in the 2014 and 2015 budgets. Former principal officers, including Ihedioha and Akande-Adeola will be invited to tell us what they know. We are going to recover all funds not legally spent. I am aware that the police will do the same,” the source said.
The former Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Abdulmumin Jibrin had accused Speaker, Yakubu Dogara and three other principal officers of padding the 2016 budget to the tune of N40 billion naira.
