Ahead of its August 17 National Convention, the Sen. Ahmed Makarfi’s-led Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has fixed August 15, for the screening of all its members aspiring into various positions of the party.
The Makarfi’s committee has continued to insist that it would go ahead with its planned National Convention slated for Port Harcourt, Rivers State, despite an Abuja Federal High Court ruling sacking the committee.
Justice Okon Abang-led court had recent ruled that the committee was illegally constituted and as such lacks the powers to conduct any activity on behalf of the opposition party.
However, a statement released yesterday by a member of the committee, Abdul Ningi, disclosed that Tuesday was fixed for the screening appeal, adding that the screening would take place at the Rivers State secretariat of the party in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Those aspiring for the chairmanship position of the party include, a former Deputy National Chairman (South), Bode George, Founder of DAA Communications, Raymond Dokpesi, a former Minister of Education, Tunde Adeniran, and the party’s governorship candidate in the April 11, 2015 governorship election in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje.
The statement reads, “The Leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has directed that aspirants who have picked Nomination Forms to contest for various positions in the forthcoming National Convention holding in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Wednesday August 17, 2016 are to note the following activities: Screening Committee – 15 August, 2016. Screening Appeal – 16 August, 2016.”
