Over 120,000 Youths Join Peace Corps of Nigeria

Over 120,000 youths across the country have so far enlisted as volunteers of the Peace Corps of Nigeria to assist the government in its war against social vices.
National Commandant of the Corps, Mr. Dickson Akor, made this known at the inauguration of 1,700 new cadet officers of the corps from the north central zone, at the end of their initial mandatory one month training at Aliade in Guma local government area of Benue state.
Akor who stated that the cadets were availed trainings by experts in various fields, noted the corps was not in competition with security agencies, but was out to compliment their activities.
He said the corps would provide idle Nigerian youths the opportunity to be gainfully engaged in ensuring peaceful coexistence in parts of the country and by so doing contribute to national growth and stability.
Akor who lauded National Assembly for ensuring the passage of the law recognizing the organization stated that with a staff strength of over 120,000 the Peace Corps of Nigeria, would to a large extent reduce the rate of unemployment in the country when the government finally takes over the organization.
Speaking, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State who was represented by his Deputy, Chief Benson Abounu, said the recognition being accorded the Corps was coming at the right time giving the increasing wave of social vices in the country.
He assured that his administration would partner the corps in its quest to arrest the increasing cases of kidnapping and cultism in parts of the state.
