Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has called on the Federal Government to do more in stopping attacks on the people of the state by herdsmen.
Governor Ortom made the call today in Abuja, while speaking at the launch of the book, 'Standardization and Quality Regulation in Africa', written by Acting Director General, Standards Organization of Nigeria, SON, Dr. Paul Angya.
He said the incessant attacks on communities of the state and killing of innocent people must not only be condemned but also given urgent attention.
"Why must I wake up everyday to find my people killed by herdsmen? This is unacceptable! Nigeria must act fast to stop further invasion and killing of people across the land", he stated.
Governor Ortom said the frequent attacks on Benue people by herdsmen had added to the current economic downturn to make life miserable for majority of the people.
The Governor reaffirmed the determination of his administration to find a lasting solution to the crisis caused by grazing of cattle, stating that ranching remained the best available option.
On the new book, Governor Ortom commended the author, Dr. Angya for finding time to offer society a valuable reference material. He recommended the Acting Director of SON for confirmation as substantive head of the regulatory agency based on his credible performance.
Speaking earlier, the Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh also commended Dr. Angya for the book, saying that it would help the country in addressing numerous quality and standards regulatory problems, particularly as they affect institutions and legal frameworks.
