Benue State Governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom, has made an open appeal to the Federal Government to make Acting Director-General of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Dr. Paul Angya, the substantive DG.
Ortom, who made this appeal during his remarks at the launch of Angya’s book on Standardisation and Quality Regulation in Africa held on Tuesday in Abuja, described the Acting DG as someone that have demonstrated overt ability to help Nigeria attain the desired status in terms of maintenance and regulation of products and services.
He also used the occasion to stress the impact of the farmers’/herdsmen crisis on the economic prowess of Benue, being a state that primarily depends on crop farming as the main stay of its economy.
He also called for attention to the need to help the herdsmen to become better livestock farmers, through the adoption of ranches.
He said, “Let’s help the herdsmen. They need help, which is why I have done everything for my people to maintain peace with them. We must adopt ranching as the only option.”
