GOV ORTOM DOES NOT MAKE POLICE POSTINGS

By : Terver Akase
The report published by Nigerian Concord alleging that Governor Samuel Ortom has influenced the posting of his former Chief Security Officer, Dickson Orlu Pawa to head the Mobile Unit of the State Police Command is another ridiculous and politically-motivated attempt by the online medium to smear the good name of the Governor.
Governor Ortom neither works at the Police Service Commission nor Police Headquarters and does not have control over appointments, postings or redeployments made by the Force and would not have influenced the posting of any officer, senior or junior.
The posting of police officers is supposed to remain in the domain of the police except that some former Governors preferred that those who served under them be posted to the EFCC to help with corruption cases against them. It is not surprising therefore, for media outfits funded by such former Governors to believe that the posting of police officers could be influenced.
The story is not only false and misleading but also lacks every ounce of objective journalism and should be treated as such.
It can be recalled that Dickson Pawa was Governor Ortom’s Chief Security Officer for less than six months, but had earlier served as former Governor Gabriel Suswam's Aide-de-Camp, ADC, for seven and a half years.
What the report by Nigerian Concord also implies is that sponsors of criminal acts in the state know the capacity of Dickson Pawa to crush such activities and are jittery that if he is posted to head the Mobile Unit of the Benue State Police Command, their evil plans could be thwarted, hence the preemptive but unfounded alarm.
The report clearly shows that the online medium is getting it wrong each passing day. It is unfortunate that a supposed neutral medium has offered itself to be used by political masters to misinform Benue people.
