The Federal Government of Nigeria and Benue State Government today signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU on Conditional Cash Transfer, a joint programme by the two arms of government. Acting Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Bem Melladu signed the document on behalf of the Benue State Government at the Cabinet Office in Makurdi, the Benue State capital. He said the programme intended to uplift the living standard of the people of the state. According to him, the exercise is a national safety programme targeted at reducing poverty among the people. Senior Special Assistant to Governor Samuel Ortom on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Terhide Utaan said the MoU was for the implementation of the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, one of the five Social Investment Programmes initiated by the Federal Government. According to Utaan, the APC administration is committed to turning around the economy of the country through investment in the critical sectors of the economy while providing social security to the citizenry.
