107B FRAUD: GROUP GIVE EFCC ULTIMATUM TO BEGIN PROSECUTION OF SUSWAM OR FACE MASS PROTEST

As part of efforts to revive the economy of Benue State, the Benue Youth Movement for Good Governance is appealing to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to commence investigation into how 107 billion Naira was allegedly stolen from the state’s treasury.
Addressing a joint news conference in Abuja on Sunday, the President of the Benue Youth Movement, Terrence Kuanum, pointed out that Benue State remained one of the poorest states in Nigeria due to the mismanagement of funds by previous administrations.

BEING FULL TEXT OF PRESS BRIEFING ON THE MONUMENTAL CORRUPTION ORCHESTRATED BY POLITICAL OFFICE HOLDERS IN BENUE STATE, BY THE BENUE YOUTHS MOVEMENT FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE ON SUNDAY 3RD JULY, 2016 AT AGURA HOTEL, ABUJA.
Gentlemen of the press.
It is with sincere commitment to the course of development of our dear State, Benue that we converged here today to discuss the existence of Benue in conformity with the development blue print of her founding fathers.
Benue State today is one of the poorest States in Nigeria not because we do not have natural resources to explore or we are short changed by the Federal Government in terms of federal revenue allocation but because some of our brothers and sisters have turned the fortune of the State to their person belongings.
It is a well known fact, that corruption has crippled development in Nigeria especially in Benue state where 107 billion Naira was stolen from the poor state's account just in eight years one may be tempted to say that, the anti graft agencies are sleeping for their inability to fish out the looters of our treasury. The coming of President Muhammad Buhari has reawakened the consciousness of Nigerians in the area of public sector corruption where we are witnessing high profile prosecution of our treasury looters on daily bases.
In Benue State, the looters are currently living their luxurious lives with mansions and fleet of assorted cars including private choppers, their investment capacities have no limitation as they move on with display of wealth both within and outside the country. They are highly connected to a point that they nominate security aides to anti graft heads in the country.
It is on this note, we canvass for the implementation of Gov.Ortom administration's slogan of "If you chop money, money will chop you" an agitation which led to the probe of the immediate past administration of Gabriel Suswam through a judicial commission of enquiry where 107 Billion Naira was discovered looted without documentation. The findings of the Benue State Judicial Commission of Inquiry rekindled the hope of average Benue sons and daughters who believe that monies meant for the development of the State must be committed into physical projects that will have direct bearing on the lives of Benue people.
Since February 2016 when the Judicial Commission of Inquiry completed her job, the declaration of stolen 107 billion Naira by Gabriel Torwua Suswam and 51 others has triggered anger in the State. We are no longer happy because this is our money and it must be returned to the treasury.
The attorney General of the State, Barr. Michael Gusa has forwarded the gazetted white paper of the Benue State Government with a renowned petition to the EFCC over the stealing of 107 billion Naira by Gabriel Suswam and His cronies for onward investigation and prosecution as an anti graft agency saddled with the responsibility of investigating and prosecuting corrupt officials. But for over three months, EFCC has swept the petition under the carpet up till this moment, the EFCC has not said anything regarding the petition, probably because the ADC to the acting chairman was the ADC to Gabriel Suswam during his last days in office as governor of Benue State. It has been uncovered that the Magu led EFCC is not ready to probe Suswam because of the former ADC to Suswam who is now the head of Magu inner security.
The entire Benue community is wondering why the active EFCC could sweep such sensitive petition with facts and figures under the carpet. We as concerned Benue community demand that the EFCC must wake up from her slumber and do the needful, to commence investigation into the matter with physical invitation to the affected persons immediately. Although some of the looters have refunded cash in a plea bargain arrangement while others believe it is their right to steal from the treasury hence their resolve to compromise the anti graft agencies to cover their prosecution.
As affected Benue people we wish give EFCC 72 hours ultimatum to investigate these looters, and failure to do so, we shall have no option than to match to the street to press home our demands.
We call on the attorney General of the federation to prevail on EFCC to commence investigation without delay.
Long live President Muhammad Buhari
Long live Benue State of NIGERIA.
Thanks and God bless you for coming.
HON. TERRENCE KUANUM
PRESIDENT, BENUE YOUTHS MOVEMENT FOR GOOD GOVERNACE.
