Ortom made the remark during the Benue State dedication service to God held at the IBB square, in Makurdi. He blamed the magnitude of the financial woes in the state on the past administration’s alleged looting of the treasury.
Governor Ortom also led the state exco members and some federal legislators to God as he prayed, and rededicated the state to God to break unholy ancestral covenants.
He said: “The former administration deliberately created the problems we have now.”
The myriads of problems bedeviling the state include the over N140 billion debt left by the past administration, the illegal employment of over 4,000 people at the eve of their exit, and the N107 billion allegedly found by the Justice Elizabeth Kpojime committee to have been looted, he said.
The governor added that the insecurity situation in the state, occasioned by herdsmen invasion, kidnapping, cultism as well as the dwindling allocation to the state from an average of N5 billion in the past, to less than N2 billion, among other ugly trends, necessitated the 14 days prayer and fasting, which ended with the dedication service.
