Hundreds of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP members in Vandeikya and Konshisha today dumped the party and joined the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The defectors attributed their decision to leave PDP to the honest and transparent manner the State Governor, Samuel Ortom has so far handled affairs of the state, despite the current economic situation.
Among the defectors in Vandeikya were Senator Jack Tilley Gyado, former member of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Abraham Akor Agba, former Commissioner for Works, Engineer Mrs. Mnena Shija, former Special Adviser on Agriculture and Food Security, Emmanuel Atser and Barrister Ngunan Agera.
In Konshisha, top on the list of defectors were former Head of Service in the State, Chief Theophilus Azaagee, immediate past State Auditor of PDP, Mr Abraham Nyikwagh, a stalwart of the party in the area, Mr Ayom Maa and three former Chairmen of the local government area, Messrs Tyo Omo-Lele, Joseph Aza Ahire and Nyigh Nor.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors in Vandeikya, Senator Jack Tilley Gyado said the PDP was long 'dead and buried' as the party had failed to meet the aspirations of the people. He said the achievements recorded by Governor Ortom in just one year in office had endeared him to the people as witnessed in the mass defection of fomer PDP members to the APC.
He thanked the Governor for receiving them, assuring that they would assiduously work for the success of the present administration and the victory of APC in future polls.
At the Tse-Agberagba decamping ceremony in Konshisha, former Head of Service in the State, Chief Theophilus Azaagee who spoke on behalf of other defectors, said the achievements recorded by Governor Ortom in the face of financial challenges had convinced them that the APC administration was genuinely committed to the service of the state.
Responding, Governor Ortom said the former PDP members had made the right move by joining the APC which administration had clearly demonstrated the resolve to positively impact on the lives of the people.
Governor Ortom assured the defectors that there would be no discrimination between former members of the party and new ones, however cautioning against acts capable of defeating team spirit in the party.
He said his administration believes in inclusiveness, fairness and consultation in the distribution of development projects and programmes for the people.
Speaking earlier, Senator representing Benue North East, Senator Barnabas Gemade and State Chairman of APC, Comrade Aba Yaro, commended the decision of the former PDP members to leave the party in droves, assuring them that the APC remained the best platform upon which the yearnings of the people could be realised.
