The leadership crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken its toll on the members as the Nigerian Police today, May 22, prevented members of the National Working Committee from gaining entrance into the Wadata Plaza national secretariat of the party in Abuja.
This comes after the party held a divided parallel national convention on Saturday, May 21.
According to a report on Premium Times, the police cordoned off one of the traffic lanes leading into the complex, while those who had been on ground providing security were all replaced.
Benueforum.com recalls that two parallel PDP conventions, held on Saturday, May 21 in Port Harcourt and Abuja, produced two different leaders.
While the party’s national chairman by Ali Sheriff, was sacked and replaced with Ahmed Makarfi, a former Kaduna state governor in Port Harcourt, the Abuja convention appointed a former Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu, as acting national chairman.
Sheriff however insists he remains the party’s national chairman.
