Benue LG Poll: Konshisha APC Stakeholders Bicker Over Zoning Formula

There are cracks in the ranks of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Konshisha local government area of Benue State over sharing formula ahead of the local government election in the state.

Our correspondent gathered that things came to a head recently when stakeholders of the party allegedly engaged in fisticuffs during one of their meetings.

The Gyakyol entity in Konshisha council of the Benue North East senatorial district is the constituency of Senator Barnabas Gemade.

The stakeholders had called an emergency meeting chaired by Chief Atumba Shima to resist moves by some stakeholders to jettison the existing sharing formula and entrench a divisive policy in the clans of the area.

In a communique signed by the leader of Gyakyol Concerned Citizens, Dr. Linus Ikpaahindi, the stakeholders said there was a serious crisis occasioned by moves to lump the two clans of Gaav by the changing the sharing formula between the people of Iwarev, Mbavaa of Gaav and Shangev Tiev areas.

“The meeting dwelt on political crisis on the pending elections of chairman and other officials of the local government.

“That the area of authority was specified as Iwarev, Mbavaa and Shangev Tiev clans and that the chairmanship of the local government was also shared along the three clans, with Iwarev being left behind,” Ikpaahindi said in the communique.

He further noted that crisis had hit the party because some political bigwigs wanted to fracture the process and forcefully change the sharing formula, hence the urgent need for the APC to review the recent zoning for the position of chairman and reassign same to Iwarev clan for fairness and objectivity.
