The Alafin of Oyo, Oba (Dr.) Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi and the emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi are among top dignitaries from across Nigeria that have defied all fears of the insurgency in the Northeast Nigeria to attend the convocation ceremony of the University of Maiduguri today.
Oba Adeyemi who received his investiture as the chancellor of the foremost Northeastern tertiary institution at a grand ceremony, yesterday, arrived Maiduguri on Thursday.
The emir of Kano, arrivedMaiduguri in his royal limousine yesterday to attend the convocation lecture ahead today’s event which also coincides with the 40th Anniversary of the university.
The Convocation Lecture was titled “Corruption, Bad Governance and Insecurity.”
Also speaking at yesterday’s convocation lecture was the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Godwin Emefiele, his deputy, Malam Suleiman Barau who spoke extensively on the state of the economy and the tightened monetary policy.
Other dignitaries that had since arrived Maiduguri are various state governors from across the country.
The former vice chancellors of the university, led by Professor Jubril Aminu have all made it to Maiduguri ahead today’s event.
The chief of army staff, Lieutenant-general Tukur Buratai, who was awarded at an alumni dinner night on Thursdaywas also at the convocation lecture.
The vice chancellor of the university, Professor Abubakar Njodi, said during the Alumni Dinner that the convocation and 40th Anniversary celebration was not only meant to graduate students and felicitate with the growing university, but also to help tell the world that peace has finally returned to Borno State.
