MAJOR STAKEHOLDERS LAUD GOVERNOR ORTOM’S DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS

Major stakeholders in Benue State yesterday commended Governor Ortom for his development efforts in the state.
They included politicians, the clergy, academics, women leaders, former ministers, lawyers, the organized private sector, leaders of socio-cultural organizations, representatives of people in the diaspora, and members of the State and National Assembly.
The event was a stakeholders meeting convened by the Governor at the Benue Peoples House, in Makurdi.
Messrs. Chia Igundunase, Adi Shirsha, Anthony Oko, and Comrade Abba Yaro spoke for the National Conscience Party, NCP, Labour Party, LP, Democratic Peoples Party, DPP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, while Bishop Michael Apochi, Catholic Bishop of Otukpo and Reverend Akpen Leva, chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, spoke for Christian leaders.
Other speakers were Chief Abu King Shuluwa, Senator Jacob Gyado, Andrew Idakwo, for party chieftains, Dr. Son Gyoh, for those in the diaspora, Dr. David Ikoni, chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, at the Benue State University, and Mr. Godwin Anya, chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC in Benue State.
Mrs. Rhoda Ako spoke for women, Professor Jerry Agada, former ministers, Felix Akiga, for the organized private sector, Bernard Hon, Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Engr. Edward Ujege for socio-cultural organizations, General Daniel Indiorhwer, rtd, for retired military officers, and Felix Akiga for the organized private sector.
Barrister Orker Jev, member of the House of Assembly representing Buruku Federal Constituency spoke for the National Assembly and Speaker of the State Assembly, Terkimbi Ikyange spoke for state legislators while Chief Jam Gbinde who represented the acting Tor Tiv, Chief Ivokor Unongo, spoke for traditional rulers.
Elder Joseph Nyam moved the motion for the endorsement of Governor Ortom’s development efforts and Professor John Oko seconded.
Former Governor of Anambra and Benue States, General John Atom Kpera, spoke for former Governors.
In his presentation Governor Ortom listed his achievements in all the sectors saying in spite of dwindling state resources he had done well.
He however, stated that insecurity, especially the invasion of the state by herdsmen, as well as inadequate funds to pay salaries were his greatest challenges.
