BSU SCHOOL FEES: BENUE ASSEMBLY SUMMONS VC, EDUCATION COMMISSIONER, OTHERS

Benue State House of Assembly, Today summoned the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Denis Ityavyar and the Vice Chancellor of the State University, Prof. Msugh Kembe to appear before it tomorrow at 10am.
The Commissioner is to explain why he has been justifying the recent arbitrary increment in the amount of money paid as Conditional Charges by students of the Benue State University, Makurdi, while the Vice Chancellor who is to appear alongside his Principal Officers is expected to explain why he has decided to inflict more pains on Benue people by the hike despite the current harsh economic climate in the State.
Equally, the House appealed to Students, parents and the people of the state to remain calm as it was determined to ensure ameacable resolution of the matter.
Speaker of the Assembly, Mr. Terkimbi Ikyange handed the resolutions of the House while ruling after a debate on a motion of Urgent Public Importance moved by the member for Gboko West Constituency, Mr. Terhemba Chabo, who lamented the recent hike in the Conditional Charges by the Management of the University.
Mr. Chabo noted that while the Assemby was not against increasing rates from time to time depending on the economic realities at a particular time, the increment was ill timed, unacceptable and unjustifiable, and called on the Assembly to wade in to avert impending crisis at the University.
In their seperate contributions, the Majority Leader, Barr. Benjamin Adanyi, Dr. Adoga Onah ( Oju I), Mr. James Gbande (Kwande East), Mr. Stephen Tyochir (Gwer), and the Minority Leader, Alh. Audu Sule, all condemned the arbitrary increment in the charges by the University and stressed the need for the institution to take the plight of parents into consideration before effecting the increment.
