It was a time of praise and thanksgiving unto God and encomium for Beue women as the 9th Benue Women In Prayer (BEWIP) Convocation held at the Chapel of Grace, Benue People"s House, Makurdi.
Benue State Deputy Governor, Engr. Benson Abounu who also stood in for Governor Samuel Ortom was full of praises for the women whose consistent prayers for the state he attributes to the relative peace and modest successes recorded so far by the government in the face of daunting challenges.
Engr. Abounu who took time to unveil the serious financual challenges facing the state occasioned by the fall in global oil prices and the unprecedented looting of the state"s resources by the past government, said it was the prayers of Benue women; more than any other thing else that has assisted the government stabilise and get over most of the problems confronting it.
The Deputy Governor disclosed that Governor Ortom never takes any major decision without seeking the face of God and attributes this to the fervent prayers of the women. He stated rhat because God is the anchor of their administration, Benue state and Governor Ortom have become an example to others.
He stated that 9 states have so far adopted the amnesty programme of the state while many more have also adopted the method of salary payment which has become a model.
Engr. Abounu assured the group of continuous government support in all its activities.
Earlier, initiator of the programme and wife of the Benue state governor, Dr. Eunice Ortom thanked Benue women for responding to her call for prayers for the state and the government of the day, explaining that the call for prayers for those in authority is a divine injunction.
She stated that though the state might be going through some difficult times, it could have been worse but for the prayers of the women and other Christians. She therefore called on people of the state, irrespective of political party lines to take up the call to prayers for the state and the government, Knowing that when the government succeeds and rules with the fear of the Lord, the people rejoice
Cordinator of the Fellowship, sister Berry Uja expressed joy at the response from the women and encouragement received from the clergy and assured that with God on their side, better days are sure to come.
Pastor Oloche King Adaji of Dunamis Church, spoke on the powers of praise and thanksgiing and called on Benue people to continually praise the Lord at all times. He spoke on the rheme, "rebuilding broken walls with praise and thanksgiving".
Goodwill messages came from the state leadership of CAN, led by Rev. Akpen Leva as well as the wife of the Taraba state governor, Mrs. Hanna Jarius Ishaku who came in with many top female government functionaries from Taraba state.
Mrs Ishiaku commended Dr. Eunice Ortom for initiating the programme and promised to replicate it in Taraba state.
Prayers were made for the country, the government of President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Samuel Ortom, the church in the state among others.
