Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has disclosed that his administration has earmarked N1 billion naira for land clearing and additional N1 billion for the acquisition of modern equipment including tractors to boost mechanized dry season farming in the state.
Governor Ortom made this known today at the wedding reception for Solomon Msughter Amande Sule and Dorathy Dooshima Ajai in Makurdi.
Represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Terver Akase, the Governor restated the commitment of the present administration to its agriculture driven industrialisation policy which he said is aimed at diversifying the economy of the state to make it less dependent on oil revenue.
The Governor called on Benue youths to shun crime, rumour mongering and idleness to enable them engage in entrepreneurship and other meaningful ventures as his administration had concluded plans to provide the necessary support and the enabling environment for them.
He congratulated Solomon Amande Sule for leaving bachelorhood and advised other young persons to take a cue from the couple.
Mr Akase quoted Governor Ortom as acknowledging the role played by youths on social media in his emergence as Governor of the state, stressing that online platforms had become veritable tools for positive change and good governance.
Others who spoke at the wedding included the Chairman, Benue State Board of Internal Revenue Service, BIRS, Mrs Mimi Azape-Orubibi who urged the new couple to live according to the teachings of Jesus Christ so as to serve as good example for other young people.
High point of the reception was cutting of the wedding cake by the couple.
