BAILOUT FUNDS: BENUE SSG DESCRIBED ICPC'S REPORT OF ALLEGE DIVERSION OF BAILOUT FUNDS IN BENUE AS OVERZEALOUS,A MISCHIEF AGAINST THE STATE GOVERNMENT

Secretary to the Benue State Government Barr. Targema Takema has described the reports of allege diversion of bailout funds in Benue State as hasty conclusions of mischief makers who are determined to undermine the hard earned integrity and reputation the Ortom led administration has earned for prudently managing the state's meager resources ever since taking over the mantle of leadership in May, 2015.
Reacting to reports credited to the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offenses Commission ICPC where it posited that 1.6 billion Naira was remaining from the state's 12.5 billion Naira fund and an investigation of a suspected double payment of 37 million Naira to the Office of the Deputy Governor, the SSG maintained that " No such diversion has taken place in the case of Benue State. The Federal Government graciously offered Twenty Eight Billion, Five Hundred Thousand Naira (28.5billion) to the state in respect of the outstanding salaries owed civil servants by the previous administration."
The disbursement of the funds according to the SSG was done in accordance with the philosophy of the Governor Samuel Ortom led administration using best practices of transparency and accountability. This the SSG said was achieved through the setting up of a committee headed by the Deputy Governor to supervise the exercise along the leadership of labour unions in the state while the State Executive Council received periodic briefing on the disbursement process. " It is in the light of the above facts that I consider it a mischief for anybody to hastily conclude without investigations that monies could be diverted or misapplied under such arrangements even when the governor had previously announced a balance of over a billion Naira to be paid to pending genuine workers of the state who may have been omitted." The SSG queried.
Takema who stated that the State Government entrenched fairness and transparency in the disbursement of the bailout through the authorization of a biometric exercise that has fished out a lot of ghost workers and payroll manipulators who would soon be handed over to security agencies for prosecution adding that " the bailout fund is not for fraudsters and all beneficiaries must be lawfully employed as civil servants in the state."
The SSG who also commended the ICPC for carrying out the exercise however wondered why the commission could not wait for the report of the full investigation it said it was carrying out or contact the State Government for facts before publishing the contradictory report where many states have come out to disclaim and called on the commission and other anti-graft agencies to instead examine the report of the Justice Kpojime led Commission of Enquiry that is pending before it with a view to helping the state recover billions of Benues' common wealth which was stolen by the previous administration.
