Residents of Oju LGA of Benue State have been groaning under blackout due to outage caused by Obi youth miscreants.
As alleged in an eyewitness account, a mixture of a band of lawless and disorderly youths and some disgruntled elderly men from Ogore community in Obi LGA of Benue State went wild on the eve of Easter against PHCN’s installations in the area, thereby plunging the entire Oju LGA residents in black out.
In their rampage, the miscreants felled to the ground, wrecked and vandalized the electricity poles, about five of them, that hold the wires which supply light on national grid to Oju LGA.
No one has been able to get any of the youth to speak on their grievances or the reason for such a barbaric act, but it was gathered that law enforcement agents had since arrested some village chiefs over the ugly development.
Meanwhile, sources have been saying that some parts of the community where the vandalism took place had not been enjoying electricity for some time despite complaints made to PHCN, to no avail.
Therefore, the “youths were angered by the outage in their village whereas Oju and Adum East were enjoying light and went and destroyed the poles, as a result of the anger.”
It was learnt that was the second time the notorious Obi youths had done the same thing. The first time they went scot-free.
Obi LGA is home to the House of Representatives member for Oju/Obi Federal Constituency, Hon. Samson Okwu as well as the Deputy Majority Leader of BHSA, Hon. Nick Eworo, among other top members of the present government in the state.
