The Benue State Emergence Management Agency (SEMA) has flagged off the distribution of relief materials to IDPs in Agatu and Tarka Local Governments of the state.
The agency has also completed the needs assessment exercise on the various camps of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state in Nigeria’s central region.
The Executive Secretary of SEMA in Benue State, Hon Boniface Ortese, gave the information about the relief materials’ distribution at one of the IDPs camps established for riverine Agatu communities in Makurdi.
Hon Ortese said that the statewide distribution of relief materials had commenced, revealing that more camps had been created besides the Agatu IDPs camp.
In his remark, the manager of the Agatu IDPs camp, Emmanuel Onah, said that the names of the occupants had been compiled to screen out people gate-crashing into the camp for relief materials.
One of the Agatu IDPs, Bridget Adah, who fled from the Fulani herdsmen attack on their riverine communities in three electoral wards on the banks of River Benue, said that she needed immediate shelter and food to keep on living.
