It is interesting to see how history tends to repeat itself and how short-term our memories can be. With good intentions, most aspirants stage their platforms with campaign promises design to sway voters' opinion and get elected. Campaign promises may change slightly from election, but they are almost always related to changing current issues that are on the minds of voters. Some may be ideological in nature. However, they are proposed, they are promises that are credible and reasonable and those that are just shots in the dark.
A campaign promise is a guarantee made to the public by a candidate or political party that are trying to win an election. Like vows and pledges in the Bible, they bind on all individuals who are party to them. GovernorSamuel Ortom cannot be exceptional since he is of the same background. However, his coming on board has proven that, he is indeed the man Benue people were looking for. He has been able to convince me beyond reasonable doubt that he understands and shares the pains of Benue people. It takes only matured minds to see and or accept Ortom' policies.
In a State that only 2billion is collected as Federal allocation with a Salary wage of over 4billion at Local Government and about 3.7billion at State Level, a State that generates less than a billion Naira as internal Revenue, a State where almost all Government shares were sold across the Country, a State that inherited over 160billion debt from the immediate past administration, a State that take off with a empty treasury, a State of chaos, a State where everything seems not to be working, a State where Security of Citizens was not guaranteed, Dr Ortom never run away from challenges. He makes use of available resources to make things happen. Most at times he borrow because of the burning desire he has for his people.
His ability to declare amnesty programme, his uncompromising standard for transparency and accountability where many people thought he's too cheap, the setting up of committees to work out modalities for the proposed Agricultural loan for farmers of the State, Committee to establish Benue State council of SME as well as the State technical committee, approval for the construction of 12 Roads in different part of the State, the handing over of payment of Primary School Teachers Salary from Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs to State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to ease teachers complaint over the unnecessary deduction of their Salaries, the nature of the rule of law as seen in his non interference in all the Court cases in Makurdi and beyond, his burning desire to recover all the stolen weight by the immediate past administration among several other steps has distinguish him as the first and only Governor of the State who would do that. His inability to settle up to date Salaries due to dwindling of Oil Price among several challenges is what could be seen as a challenge for all of us. His tireless effort to ensure things come to life should be a major concern for all of us. This is the time our State need serious Prayers, this is the time we must fervently Pray for our Country Nigeria. I believe with time our State will turn to Heaven on Earth. With God all things are possible.
