BENUE N7.6 BILLION SUBEB CONTRACTS WILL BE GIVEN ON MERIT- Tachin.

As the Benue State Government steps up arrangement for the award of 700 contracts for the provision of structures and facilities in Primary Schools, Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Dr Philip Tachin has said jobs will be given out on merit.
Dr Tachin told media crew in an interview that on assumption of duty, he discovered that, contracts were handled poorly. He said under his watch, the board would insist on project delivery and explained that, Governor Samuel Ortom has already approved the release of N3.8billion as counterpart fund for the projects which would cost a total of N7.6billion.
He said the Federal Government would release it's counterpart funds of N3.8billion through the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBE, and emphasized that the funds would be applied judiciously. "Iam going to read a riot act so that all the specifics would be met", he maintained.
According to him, some boreholes were paid for in the past but were not properly drilled. He added that such would not be allowed under him because a task force has been constituted for the purpose of monitoring the execution of all the projects.
The SUBEB boss made it clear that payment would only be made to contractors when jobs meet specifications and are certified to have been completed.
