Former Benue governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the last gubernatorial elections, Terhemen Tarzoor has spoken for the first time in a while concerning the continued attacks on farmers in the state by Fulani militants which he describe as regrettable.
Tarzoor made this remark while addressing party faithful at the weekend in Makurdi.
He said the attacks were a deliberate attempt to deny Benue state its food basket status and called on government at all levels to intensify surveillance at border communities to curb the menace.
Tarzoor said for peace to return to the affected communities, the influx of strangers into the state through porous borders must be thoroughly monitored through surveillance by security operatives and vigilante groups.
He emphasised that the security of lives and properties remained the primary responsibility of government at all levels, and called on the state government to rise up to the challenge.
