This condemnation was made by a group, Benue Youth Action when they stated that the comments by the Inspector General saying his visit did not show him 300 graves of the massacred victims of the Agatu invasion by Fulani, were callous and smacks of insensitivity of the plight of those agonized by the attacks.
The group through its leader, Philip Ogenyi while talking to our reporter in Otukpo, said the IG as one employed to protect all lives and property of every Nigerian had erred in his declaration which according to him had justified the massacre of 300 Nigerians for no just cause.
“ it is rather callous and insensitive for a man like the Inspector General to say the kind of thing he did. How can he say he did not see 300 graves of the massacred people in Agatu? Does that mean there was no massacre? Where did he see the graves or left overs of the killed 100 cows which by his assertion are worth the 300 human lives?” He querried.
According to him “the speech has sent a wrong signal to the people of the state that the federal government does not place enough value on them as their lives are mot worth more than animals as comparing 300 hundred human lives to a 100 cows is dehumanizing and irresponsible”.
He further demanded that the IG tenders unreserved apology to the people of Benue whose plight has been further worsened by the speech, noting that the police show concerted actions at trying to prevent further occurrence.
Meanwhile the group has called on the federal government to look into the plight of those affected by the crisis as the number of Internally Displaced Persons keep rising daily with no proper form of assistance from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) or any government agency.
